Which level should I choose?
Each plan gives you one JLPT course, so pick the level you are preparing for. If you have never studied Japanese, start at N5 — it begins with hiragana and katakana and assumes no previous experience. If you are not sure where you fit, the level descriptions on the courses page are the quickest way to place yourself.
Do I need a credit card to start the free trial?
No. The trial runs for 14 days with no card required. Create an account, start studying, and decide afterwards whether to subscribe.
Can I study another level later?
Yes. Each JLPT level is its own course, so you subscribe to each level separately as you move up. Your progress on a level you have finished stays in your account.
How do I pay, and can I get a refund?
Payment is by major credit or debit card, handled securely at checkout. Annual subscriptions can be refunded in full within 7 days of purchase, provided you have accessed no more than 20% of the course content. Email support@jstandard.jp with your order details and we will take care of it.
I already study at Coto — is this the same thing?
They solve different problems. Coto classes build the ability to speak and understand Japanese with a teacher in real time. J-Standard covers the exam material systematically, on your own schedule. Many students use both — classes during the week, J-Standard for exam preparation in the run-up to July and December.
